Beyond Weight Loss: Why Maves Built Treatment Protocols

Weight loss is where most people start, and for good reason. It's measurable, it's visible, and GLP-1 therapies have made it achievable for people who struggled for years.

But a pattern shows up consistently once that first goal is met, or partly met. The weight came off, and something still isn't right. Energy is flat. Strength is down. Sleep isn't restoring anything.

That pattern is why our approach expanded beyond a single outcome.

The Limits of a Single Number

Body weight is a useful metric and an incomplete one. It tells you how much you weigh, not what that weight consists of or how well your body is functioning.

Two people can lose the same amount and end up in very different places. One preserved muscle, maintained energy, and feels capable. The other lost lean mass alongside fat and feels depleted at a lower weight.

The scale reports both outcomes identically. That's the core problem with optimizing for it alone.

Why Single Therapies Have Ceilings

Most treatments address one mechanism well. A GLP-1 regulates appetite effectively, and that solves the hardest part of fat loss.

It doesn't address recovery capacity, hormonal signaling, or cellular energy. When those are the actual constraint, adding more of an appetite intervention doesn't help.

People often experience this as a plateau and interpret it as needing to try harder. Frequently the issue is that the limiting factor changed and the approach didn't.

What a Protocol Approach Changes

Combining therapies that address different systems allows the treatment to match the actual problem:

  • Appetite regulation makes a sustainable deficit possible
  • Recovery support helps protect training quality and lean mass within that deficit
  • Hormonal support addresses signaling when that's the constraint
  • Cellular energy support targets fatigue that sleep alone doesn't resolve

The intent isn't more medication. It's better-matched medication, and sometimes that means fewer components rather than more.

Organized Around Goals, Not Products

We structured our protocols around what people are actually trying to accomplish.

Body Recomp addresses fat loss while protecting lean mass. Recovery addresses fatigue and repair capacity. For men, Gains addresses stalled progress and Cut addresses fat loss with hormonal support.

Individual treatments remain available, because a full protocol frequently isn't necessary. Matching the intervention to the constraint sometimes means one therapy, not three.

What This Approach Doesn't Claim

Some clarity about limits is warranted.

None of these protocols replace training, nutrition, or sleep. They're designed to reduce the physiological friction that causes those fundamentals to break down, which is a genuinely different claim from replacing them.

Several components are compounded medications rather than FDA-approved products for these specific uses, and the evidence base varies meaningfully across them. We'd rather state that directly than imply uniform clinical backing.

What the Research Shows

The evidence supporting the underlying logic:

  • GLP-1 therapies produce clinically meaningful weight loss, with some proportion of that loss coming from lean mass
  • Resistance training and adequate protein are consistently associated with better lean mass preservation during a deficit
  • Growth hormone release is closely tied to deep sleep quality
  • Enclomiphene has been shown to raise testosterone while maintaining sperm parameters in clinical studies
  • NAD+'s role in cellular energy metabolism is well established, though human outcome data on supplementation remains limited

Research on these therapies used in combination is less developed than the evidence for each individually. Individual responses vary.

Why Medical Guidance Matters

Combining therapies raises the stakes on getting the assessment right. It requires baseline labs, attention to interactions, and monitoring as the body adapts.

It also requires a willingness to conclude that less is appropriate. A protocol approach is only an improvement if it's matched carefully, and matching requires evaluation rather than selection from a menu.

What This Means for You

If weight loss was your entry point and you've found that the number moving didn't resolve everything, that experience is common and worth taking seriously.

Looking at composition, recovery, and hormonal signaling alongside weight tends to produce a more complete result. That's the reasoning behind how we've structured our protocols.

If you're thinking beyond the scale, a medically guided evaluation is the best place to start.
